Long-time users of SOLIDWORKS and long-time followers of our blog are no doubt aware that you can configure SOLIDWORKS Dimensions, Features, Custom Properties, and Components in a handy table. However, another advantage with this function is you can also configure SOLIDWORKS material.
NOTE: To show the appropriate material appearance in each configuration, display states must be linked to configurations. Before configuring material, right-click a display state at the bottom of the ConfigurationManager tab and click Properties. In the Display State Properties PropertyManager, under Advanced Options, select Link display states to configurations. Click OK
Configure SOLIDWORKS Material
To Configure a Material you use the same process as configuring features: Right-click the Material in the FeatureManager Design Tree, then pick Configure Material from the shortcut menu.
This will bring you into the same configure table you all know and love. A column will appear with dropdowns for your favorite materials, as well as a Browse More option:
As you can imagine, the “Browse More” Option will open the Materials database. Incidentally, if you find a material in here that you use often and want to have it visible on the dropdown menu for quick and easy access, select the material, then go to the Favorites tab, and choose Add.
